Weird flex, but OK.
It’s not often when you see a sub-.500 team flexed into primetime, but this is 2020 and that is apparently what happens in 2020. The Giants (5-8), who were getting a little hot before laying down an absolute egg vs. the Cardinals this past Sunday, were flexed into primetime before that game took place. While the NFC East is dangling in the balance, the Giants’ offense isn’t exactly one that will get folks hot-and-bothered entering Sunday night. What makes matters worse: Giants QB Daniel Jones is still dealing with a hamstring injury, though he’s currently slated to play.
The Browns, on the other hand, are still hot in the playoff hunt and coming off a Monday-night thriller vs. the Ravens, a game that came down to the last two minutes and a field goal. Cleveland lost 47-42, but sit at 9-4 on the season and still have a good shot at the NFL playoffs. Kevin Stefanski has to be in the running for Coach of the Year, as he’s turned around the Browns’ offense and gotten a very good year out of Baker Mayfield.
The Giants defense has been resurgent this year, with DC Patrick Graham taking youth and turning it into production. Defensive lineman Leonard Williams is setting himself up for a nice payday, as he’s entering free agency in a career year with New York: he has a career-high 8 1/2 sacks this season, his second with Big Blue.
While recent history for both franchises elicit feelings of apathy, records aside, this could be a solid matchup to close out Sunday’s games.
