I just realized something. It’s been two weeks since Texas Gov. Greg Abbott rescinded the statewide mask mandate and I’m still alive.
As you can imagine, I’m dealing with a tremendous level of cognitive dissonance and existential confusion. The media told myself, as well as millions of other Texans that Abbot’s repeal of the mask mandate would result in widespread death and desolation all across the Lone Star state.
Democrats and media activists – but I repeat myself – implied that the aftermath would be a dystopian state similar to what you would see when watching an episode of “The Walking Dead.” Even worse, the fact that I have been to the open state of Florida twice over the past couple months should have already sealed my fate, shouldn’t it?
Even though I’m glad to be alive, I feel slightly cheated.
Where are all the mass COVID deaths? Where is the skyrocketing infection rate?
To make this situation even more curious is the fact that COVID-19 cases have actually be decreasing over the past two weeks. The Daily Mail reported:
Texas COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to see a downward trend more than two weeks after the state scrapped its mask mandate and allowed businesses to reopen at full capacity.
On Saturday, Texas’ seven-day COVID positivity rate reached an all-time low of 5.27 per cent, while hospitalizations fell to their lowest level since October, according to the latest state data.
The state recorded 2,292 new coronavirus cases, about 500 fewer on average from last week, and 107 new deaths.
The number of people hospitalized with coronavirus, meanwhile, dipped to 3,308.
Gov. Abbott, who is also still alive, celebrated the state’s progress on Twitter. He wrote: “Today the 7-day Covid positivity rate dropped to a new recorded low: 4.95% Hospitalizations dropped to a 6 month low This week we have 1 million 1st vaccines available Everyone now qualifies for a shot. They are highly recommended to prevent getting Covid but always voluntary.”

Texas will start making every adult eligible for coronavirus vaccines on Monday.
This just keeps getting weirder.
Not only am I still alive, but plenty of other Texans are as well. But this makes no sense considering the urgent warnings coming from the left about this virus.
Remember when President Joe Biden said that supporting the repeal of mask mandates was “neanderthal thinking” and his fellow leftists almost broke their necks from energetically nodding in approval?
Well, it appears their “concern” was not necessary. You see, dear reader, there was nothing to fear in the first place. What Democrats might be shocked to learn is that even without a statewide mask mandate, people still wore masks and took precautions. Businesses still required their customers to socially distance and wear face coverings.
As it turns out, Texans didn’t need Big Daddy government to compel them to make themselves safe. Unlike many on the left, we can actually comprehend the idea that we can take care of ourselves without the state telling us what to do.
Naturally, we should not assume that the activist media will bother to report on the drop in COVID cases. They still want their audience in other states to believe that Abbott is cruelly killing Texas residents using the virus and that our dead bodies are decorating the streets in all of our major cities.
Also, the activist press won’t want to admit they were wrong about their projections. After all, they still have to maintain what little trust they still have with the American public, don’t they? Nevertheless, it is abundantly clear that it has long been time to begin the process of returning to normalcy, much to the mask-loving left’s chagrin.
