Roommates, as many Americans are continuing the process of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the CEO of Pfizer just announced that now individuals will likely need a third dose of the vaccine within 12 months. He also revealed that there is a strong possibility that the Pfizer vaccinations against COVID-19 will be needed every year in order to be continuously protected.
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla’s statements regarding the COVID-19 vaccine were initially taped on April 1st, but were just recently publicized. In his statement, Bourla revealed that those who decide to take the Pfizer vaccine will need to be prepared that a third dose will likely be needed within 12 months. He also added that in order to fully protect yourself against COVID-19, you may need to be vaccinated annually.
During an event with CVS Health, Bourla said “It is extremely important to suppress the pool of people that can be susceptible to the virus.” He further stressed the importance of vaccines being a viable tool against highly contagious variants of the virus.
Previously, Pfizer that its version of the vaccine was more than 91% effective against COVID-19 and more than 95% effective for up to six months after the second dose. However, researchers say they are still unsure about how long protection against COVID-19 lasts after someone has been fully vaccinated.
This latest news regarding vaccines comes just days after the FDA and the CDC officially paused the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after six severe cases of blood clots were found in those who took the one shot version of the company’s vaccine.
