Kodak Black has been released from federal prison thanks to a pardon from Donald Trump, but it looks like his legal troubles are far from over. If y’all recall, Kodak was sentenced to 46 months in prison in a federal gun case.
While Donnie may have gotten him out of serving that firearm sentence, TMZ reports that prosecutors on a separate case plan on pursuing charges against Kodak now that he has been released.
As we previously reported, Kodak was indicted on a felony charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct back in 2016, and prosecutors “plan on pressing the case against Kodak until he cops a plea deal or there’s a trial.”
Ed Clements, the 12th Circuit Solicitor in Florence County, tells TMZ that the case is still pending and have been disrupted by COVID-19. He says jury trials are suspended and they have no court date scheduled, but plan to pursue the case anyhow.
As we previously reported, Donnie pardoned Kodak in his last day of office, but he wasn’t the only rapper that Trump lent a helping hand to. Lil Wayne was also granted clemency after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition last month. He was facing up to 10 years in prison.
Both Kodak and Wayne sent Donnie messages of thanks on Twitter.
“I want to thank the President @RealDonaldTrump for his commitment to justice reform and shortening my sentence. I also want to thank everyone for their supper and love. It means more than you will ever know. I want to continue giving back, learning and growing,” Kodak wrote.
