Roommates, Miami residents were on high alert earlier today went a shooting broke out at a popular shopping mall in the area. Five people were injured and transported to the hospital following a shooting at Aventura Mall in Miami, Florida.
According to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, five local residents were injured after gunfire erupted at the Aventura Mall in the Miami area. The five victims were quickly taken to the hospital and local authorities said that “One of those patients was a trauma alert and was transported to a local trauma center.”
Aventura police later revealed that three of the victims who were shot sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, the suspect in the Miami mall shooting is currently still at large—however, several people have been detained for questioning.
During a news conference addressing the incident, the Miami-area police said they believe an altercation that happened inside the mall is likely what initiated the shooting.
This round of violence follows a shooting that occurred earlier this week involving a sixth-grader in Idaho. A sixth-grade student was taken into custody early Thursday after authorities said that she opened fire while inside of a Rigby, Idaho middle school injuring two other students and a custodian.
The victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries as they were all shot in their limbs. The Jefferson County Sheriff said that the young girl pulled a handgun out of her backpack and fired multiple rounds. She was eventually disarmed by a teacher, who held her until authorities arrived.
