Praesidium releases updated accreditation standards, establishing the highest criteria for sexual abuse prevention

Praesidium today announced it has updated its accreditation standards, establishing the highest criteria for sexual abuse prevention within organizations to protect children and vulnerable adults within their care from abuse.

Praesidium Accreditation allows organizations to publicly demonstrate their commitment to abuse prevention. Praesidium’s updated standards are based on the latest scientific research, thousands of cases and 30 years of field experience.

The enhanced standards provide a description of the empirical research that supports their efficacy. The company also updated its scoring system, ensuring that the process is comprehensive and aligned to fit an organization’s specific needs based on its programs and services.

“To protect those who need it most, Praesidium Accreditation provides organizations with best practices and resources to strengthen abuse prevention efforts, giving them peace of mind that they have taken the most important step toward providing safe environments,” said Aaron Lundberg, president and CEO of Praesidium. “Parents want to know that the organization they entrust with the care of their loved ones takes their protection seriously. Abuse is preventable; organizations should ensure they are doing everything in their power to provide a safe environment, and parents can feel confident knowing that they have chosen a Praesidium-accredited organization.”

Launched in 2003, Praesidium Accreditation is the only comprehensive accreditation for evaluating organizations based on abuse prevention. Hundreds of organizations have since been accredited by Praesidium.

Praesidium accredits consumer-serving organizations globally, including schools, social service agencies, faith-based institutions, childcare facilities, nursing homes and youth development organizations. The accreditation process takes approximately eight to 12 months. Organizations are reevaluated for accreditation every three to five years.

Praesidium is the national leader in abuse risk management. For almost 30 years, it has supported organizations of all sizes by providing comprehensive accreditation, consulting and programming for preventing and identifying the abuse of children and vulnerable adults. Clients include YMCA of the USA, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, USA Swimming and many others.
